David Evans , Dec 16, 2009, 2:51PM ESTSteve - Thank you for leaving a comment on the GTMO Night Dive post I made last week and for your thoughts. No... unfortunately I am not quite yet "actively studying the oceans" again... at least not 'in situ.' ... No, I'm still scattered and involved in the challenging task of raising my three kids... A challenging job indeed! But with its own rewards... I am aching, at the same time, to get back in...
I have not been on here in a while (interactively) nor really have time to keep up. I have been working on projects when I can including my photo work for publishing and sale.
Did you get a chance to see my Iguanas of GTMO post also?
Anyhow, Best regards,
I hope all is well with you and yours,
glad to see you active...
Peace,
DJE -

jason b., Dec 4, 2009, 1:45PM ESTJust got a grant for exploring Jatroha as it is a local wild plant for fuel.. Its poisonous and we plant it on borders for pest control and animals don't like it it grows well..
I'm 100% for new organic plastics, I just don't know much about them...
They just opened up a sweet new renewable energy university in the Istmo of Tehuantepec, Juchitan, Oaxaca.. I'm excited to go visit it now that its up and running..
I noticed 100's of spanish and argentinian engineers milling around town as they are teaching the new tech and and running the wind farm until all the indigenous get used to it and realize that even though some of their land will get disturbed that it will benefit them and others in all kinds of good ways, which hopefully outways the couple of downsides and some of the greedy wind mill manufacturers trying to take advantage of the land owners a little more than necessary, I hope they look at this as more than a profit making project but a sustainable dev. project. -
jason b., Nov 25, 2009, 5:37PM ESTThey got the transmission lines already in, being that it is burned out desert farmland it wasn't a problem thank God.. If it was a fertile basin or forestland the indigenous people wouldn't have allowed the built..
Its a good project, the Indians are still causing problems as they want a ridiculous amount of rent money for their junk land, so only a matter of time before their is another Indian revolt, as its already brewing.. So I am staying far out of it. Its sad, cause the wind mill companies are greedy for themselves and cheap as dirt for everybody else and the Indians are the same.
We are know working on a biofuel project in the jungle highlands turning waste sugar alcohol from Coffee pulp which is a big water polluter and making gasoline out of it.. 1 out of 30 people have cars a few people have dirtbikes otherwise there is very little electricity worth ($4month per family). 2 light bulbs and a radio and they have a couple of off-road buses for public transport. Probably the greenest of any civilized people I have ever met that have a happy standard of living.. We'll see what happens..
Harvest is starting tomorrow and the desert indians are getting forced to allow windmills so blood will be shed and I want nothing to do with international companies trying to provide green power to rich people... I've already been threatened by the mayor for deportation because I will have no conflicts of interests other that the interests of the Indigenous, whom I respect more than any greedy, materialistic white man.. Anyways its awesome to see green progress despite the problems..
Happy T-day! -
jason b., Nov 22, 2009, 9:31PM ESTHey Steve, I know your into renewable energy.. A zapotec friend of mine has made huge progress on a project in La Venta, Oaxaca Mexico.. I'm not totally sure, but I think its generating 300Mega Watts.. Its in a very poor indigenous area and its pretty sweet.. Googe the Oaxaca wind projects.. Its right down off the mountain in the desert from our coffee coop.. We are also trying to grow more Jatropha and Pine nut for Bio-fuels as they have lots of incredible natural resources there in the poorest state in Mexico..
